The 15th and 16th centuries were marked by significant historical events, including the Age of Exploration, colonial expansion, and conflicts that reshaped the world. The Spanish Heavy Cavalry played a pivotal role during this period of exploration, conquest, and military innovation.
Battles and Wars:
Reconquista (711-1492): Spanish Heavy Cavalry were instrumental in the Reconquista, a centuries-long campaign to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors. Their armored charges and battlefield prowess were pivotal in the eventual success of the Christian kingdoms.
Conquest of the Americas: Spanish Heavy Cavalry played a vital role in the conquest and colonization of the Americas. Notable campaigns included Hernán Cortés' conquest of the Aztec Empire and Francisco Pizarro's conquest of the Inca Empire.
Tactics and Strategies: Spanish Heavy Cavalry were renowned for their armored horses and devastating lance charges. They formed formidable shock cavalry, charging enemy lines with tremendous impact. Their tactics emphasized the use of lances, swords, and shields in close combat.
In battles, they often served as the vanguard, leading charges to break enemy formations. Their armor and weapons allowed them to withstand enemy attacks and maintain a disciplined formation even in the heat of battle.
